According to Ephesians 2:10 God created us to belong to Christ and to work for Him. That’s the focus verse for April Coleman’s new business Created Resources, which provides art and Bible study resources along with events to help girls and women know who they are in Christ, grow in community and confidently, creatively live out their purpose. This verse perfectly anchors Created Resources as it emulates April’s own journey of finding her true identity in Christ alone and seeing how she could use her natural God-given talents to minister to others.

April’s passion for all things creative started long ago as she filled up sketchbooks and created handmade gifts for friends and family. Growing up in a small town in the pre-Pinterest era, her mom couldn’t find any art classes for children. Yet, not until her young adult years did April enroll in an art class, which led to her painting with oils, acrylics and watercolors.

April’s Background

After college, April worked as an elementary gifted education teacher for Tuscaloosa County Schools. She often taught art to her gifted students, while creating custom art for babies’ and children’s rooms as a side business. April then completed her Ph.D. in special/gifted education, which led to working as an education professor up until two years ago.

That’s when God intervened with a greater plan that would incorporate all her artistic skills and years of experience in teaching and curriculum.

April officially resigned from working full time at Mississippi University for Women in order to spend more time with her two young daughters. After doing so, she starting working part time as an adjunct professor for The University of Alabama and spent time seeking God’s will and timing for her passions of using art as ministry.

“The Lord laid the idea on my heart for a Bible study that would convey truths about our identity in Christ and how that relates to our purpose in this world.” April shared how in the past few years, she endured some health issues and other trials that in turn drew her closer to the Lord. Those testing times helped her turn from idols of perfectionism, people pleasing and self-reliance to place her trust and find her true identity in Jesus alone.

The Beginning of Created Resources

The name of her first Bible study is Created to Create. Based on Ephesians 2:10 with other Scriptures interwoven, this study focuses on how we are uniquely created, deeply loved, made new in Christ and called to use our gifts to reflect and glorify God. Or as April says, “As women, we can choose to combat society’s mixed messages and the enemy’s lies about our identity and purpose with Biblical truths, and that changes everything!”

April is living proof that despite the enemy’s plans the Lord works all things together for good in believers’ lives, as He guides them to reach their full potential in Christ. She came to the Lord at age 5 and had many Godly people pouring into her life, including her mom, grandmother and church teachers. Throughout the years, she has participated and led many Bible studies, no doubt preparing her for Created Resources.

It’s her passion to help other young girls and women find their true identity in Christ so that they can use the talents God has given them for His glory.

April has plans to release Created to Create in the near future but just launched a series of summer art camp that include daily devotionals related to the content. She has plans for more art-themed studies that will touch on topics such as the armor of God, fruit of the Spirit, power of words and strong women of the Bible.

More to come . . .

In addition to Created to Create, April plans on developing other “creative resources” to accompany Bible studies:

Mother-Daughter Devotionals

This is a personal passion for April, as she has two daughters, ages 9 and 5. These devotionals will help equip moms to guide their daughters in Bible-centered conversations.

Art Curriculum (Unit & Lesson plans)

This will include topical lesson plans with step-by-step instructions for art projects related to Biblical truths. The curriculum will be structured so that it can be used easily by parents as well as teachers in church or Christian schools.

Scripture Truth Cards & Art Prints

These beautifully designed works of art will help reinforce Scripture memory.

Sweet Treats Art Camp is coming up!

Girls’ Summer Art Camp (Ages 6-12)

Only a few spots left.

Projects will include painting on canvas and watercolor paper, mixed media “sweets,” sculpture, printmaking and more!
