Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect from a Kaci Lane book?

Short answer:

Like my tagline implies, I write books that are sweet, southern and sarcastic in nature.

Long answer:

I write what I want to read. I’m a Christian, and although my character archs don’t focus on spiritual matters, I write from a Christian worldview. That means my main characters often pray, go to church, and live by Biblical standards. That offends some people and isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, and I understand that. However, that means although my books aren’t strong enough in emphasis to call Christian romance, they are written about mostly Christian characters and can be called inspirational. All my books are also labeled SWEET and have a mild intimacy level. Even if harder topics such as infidelity are addressed, nothing is shown on the page.

I’m also a life-long southerner, having lived in Alabama my entire life, mostly rural. The stories and antics in my novels all stem from real-life events. As my husband often says, “real life is better than fiction.” At least, it is around our house. But it’s my mission to share a little SOUTHERN culture with the world. Some people love this and others think we’re strange. We are, and I understand if you don’t care to read about hunting, mudding, and nosy old people.

And I’m very SARCASTIC. The two books I’ve written that are not comedies have reviews saying how funny they are or how the readers enjoyed witty banter. Honestly, it’s easier for me to write comedy, as I had to hold back on those to make them more serious.

Pretty much, I enjoy stories that have all the feelings without the smut, don’t compromise my beliefs, and make me laugh out loud. If that’s what you’re looking for, I’m your girl!

Where do you get your ideas?

Short answer:

Everyday life

Long answer:

I’m very observant and have a good memory. I also find the funny in everyday life. About a year ago I started keeping small notepads in my car and purse to write key details when I came across a “funny.” This could be something someone said or did or something I might hear or see in the media. Life is filled with endless material for romcoms!

My friends also give me ideas. On a recent girl’s trip, I filled up about six pages of notes during a three-hour drive from stories they told me. When I first started writing, I was afraid to put something in a story that happened to other people. However, I’ve learned that people enjoy finding their funnies in my book. Friends will text me all the time with “Hey, here’s something that should go in a book.” Even those who don’t read love to share ideas.

Disclaimer: I only use these stories as inspiration to put with other ideas and form a fiction character or event. No real-life people or events are in my books.

Do you speak at events?

Short answer:

Yes

Long answer:

I enjoy sharing about my books and story inspiration on podcasts and in interviews.

I also enjoy speaking at women's events on Christian topics or as a lighthearted comedy speaker for any clean-comedy event.

Use the contact page to book me for localish events. (I am in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama.) You can also ask if I will be in your area if not local.
